Hi and welcome – tell us your name and the name of
book you're promoting
Charmaine
Gordon here and happy to be with you on this beautiful July evening. My latest
release is Sin of Omission, an interracial Romance/Suspense published by Vanilla
Heart.
Tell us about yourself. Where were you born? Where do you live now?
Violins
play in the background as author relates tale of ; born in Chicago into a large
family where I, the first girl, adorable who tap danced out of mother at birth,
was expected to be the dutiful daughter, good wife, and fine mom-all in order.
As tommy guns spit out rat-a-tat-tat from gangsters on running boards of black
sedans, I learned to read, write and mind my business.
Now,
after years of being an Air Force wife and later as an actor in NYC, I live in
peaceful Pearl River, NY, the bastion of the Irish.
Tommy guns!
How long have you been
writing? What inspired you to write? Was there a moment when you first thought
"I'm a writer."?
Writing
about three years and only because during the run of an off Broadway play, I
had an idea for a story and began to write.
A
radio broadcast with breaking news about a tragedy on a beach. This stirred my
imagination.
When
Vanilla Heart offered the contract, I knew I was a writer. Yes!
Must have felt great.
What genre do you write in? Have many books have you
written?
Survive
and Thrive is the theme and the genre is Contemporary women’s fiction,
Romance/Suspense.
Six
books to my credit and more in my head.
Wow.
List the names of your books.

Starting Over
Now What?
Reconstructing Charlie
Sin of Omission.
The first book was Once Again, Now published by a
house now closed.
What is your latest book about?
Sin
of Omission Blurb:
Seems
easy enough. Jimmy Costigan will deliver supplies to sister Charlie's project
Haven, a respite for the needy, and leave. Simple.
Instead, Shelley Jackson answers the door, says she needs him and soft-hearted
Jimmy stays to protect the family seeking refuge from a sociopath. He didn't
count on falling in love.
A twist of fate intervenes when Shelley keeps a secret that threatens to break
apart the Costigans and her future. A mysterious client, Deanna Rose, enters
Haven, victim of a savage beating under strange circumstances. Using Internet
resources, Shelley digs in to find Ms. Rose has an unsavory past.
With the reputation and safety of Haven at stake, Shelley is at risk to lose
everything ... and everyone she cares about.
Favorite moment in book (without giving anything
away)
Shelley
Jackson is talking to her best friend Charlie, roommate from Northwestern U in
Evanston, IL, and expresses her feelings. This takes place in front of Jimmy
Costigan, Charlie’s brother and Shelley’s lover.
“Charlie,
you accepted me as a friend and roommate but how would you feel if I were to
marry your brother and bring color into the lily white home of your Aunt and
Uncle. I’ve been there. So pristine and perfect. I envied your life and all the
love they have for you.” She took another deep breath and reached for the twins
in Jimmy’s arms. He relinquished them so readily it made her pause and when he
again refused to meet her eyes, her mind moved on. Maybe their father didn’t
want them after all. “That’s about all except to say I’m sorry. I’ve committed
a sin of omission by not coming clean. If you can find it in your hearts to forgive
me, we can work it out. Ball’s in your court.”
How have you evolved as a writer from your first story
until your latest?
OMG!
From cave woman writing with a stick in the dirt to moving on. My publisher
believes in me. Love her big time.
Love that – cave woman writing with a stick…
Plotter or a pantster? Why does this work best for
you?
I’m
what you might call a sleep-writer. An idea comes in the night and in the
morning, I begin to write. The characters hover around, annoying at times and I
laugh and cry as I write.
Have any of your characters ever been based on people
you knew from real life?
In
Now What? the main character Carly Evans is a lot like me. Suddenly widowed,
she didn’t know how to put one foot in front of the other w/o her husband. A
painful journey filled with humor and suspense as Carly learns to live alone.
Personally I have trouble coming up with book titles,
is this easy for you? How do you do it?
Book
titles like characters names spring from mind. Maybe years of acting paved the
way to improvisational thinking.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully alive and writing, maybe a movie contract
or television story. Dreamer!
If you could meet an author (dead or alive) who would
it be and why?
William
Shakespeare. Come to me Willy boy. Tell me a story or ten.
Yes, Shakespeare would a fun author to sit down
with.
Having just got through a bit of writer's block
myself, have you ever hit a writer's wall?
How did you deal with it?
No
walls here, happy to say. My thought on block is write Remember When on a clean
piece of paper. Fun and no pressure. Pick a happening from the past and write
about it. Fun is the key.
Brilliant idea. Will have to remember that if I ever
get writer's block again.
What's the name of the book you like to read over and
over? What makes it so special for you?
I
reread my books when I have time. Love John Sandford, Robert B. Parker, Susan
Isaacs, Elmore Leonard all on audio while I’m busy w/stuff. I’ve raised my 4 and a half grandest
grandchild since infancy. Rocked her while writing steamy scenes. What a kick!
Wonder if she'll become a writer.
Where do you write? Office, kitchen table, computer,
laptop? Where would the perfect location
be for you?
I
write in a crowded office on a laptop. Why crowded? Toys, munchkins stuff,
clothes size 3 & 4T. Barely room for my small self to write and think.
Short question time.
Chocolate ice cream or chocolate gelato? Peppermint Patties, thanks.
Baseball or hockey? Baseball
Hot red finger nail polish or bare nails? Hot pink polish, oh yes.
Spaghetti or steak? Filet
mignon, thanks
Laying on a
beach or skiing down a mountain? Beach, baby.
Ocean breezes.
White roses or red roses? Red
